New list to discuss ABC Network -- and how you can help

With the introduction of the New Draft Proposal for an Anarchist Black Cross Network, a number of new discussions have emerged around building a fresh, anarchist-oriented, anti-prison movement. Several people have taken the initiative to start discussions in their areas around the document or toward launching new ABC groups. In addition, the New Draft Proposal has prompted some discussions on strategy and how we can effectively work together.

Now it's time to get chatting!

The abc-net list was formed to give a place for those with basic unity (meaning, you like the idea and want to see it happen; or pretty much agree with some differences) with the New Draft Proposal as a basis to start discussions. Obviously, network formation email talks will touch on a variety of topics -- purpose, campaigns, etc. -- but the goal is to kick off productive discussions toward building the network. We welcome critiques and discussions with all sectors of the autonomous/anarchist prisoner support community (including the eco-defense, indigenous, women prisoners and prison organizer support movements).

People who join the abc-net list should want to be involved in some capacity with the formation of the ABC Network -- meaning this is primarily an organizing.discussion and strategy list for the network's formation. You are especially enouraged to join if you are involved with an existing (autonomous, non-federated) ABC or want to form one in your area; if you are connected to or want to start a local/regional prisoner support, anti-prison and/or anarchist collective. Be prepared to give an intro of yourself, and to state your ideas.

If you don't have time to join the list, but want to support the network effort, a few suggestions:

* print and send copies of the New Draft Proposal for an Anarchist Black Cross Network printable version @ http://www.anarchistblackcross.org/abc/printable/print.html) to prisoners, organizations, fellow anarchists and people without Internet access, and ask them to write us with feedback.

* forward this note, the URL for the New Draft Proposal and info to regional lists, anarchist discussion lists, friends and anyone who might be interested (excluding cops, the FBI... you know the deal...).

* start an ABC group in your area. A primer on starting an ABC group is at: http://www.anarchistblackcross.org/abc/starting.html.

* If you're with an anarchist collective, check with others in the group about affiliating with the network once it forms.

* If you know of groups, prisoner support programs, links, articles, essays, anything that oughta be added to www.anarchistbackcross.org, mail us!
