MISSION STATEMENT
of the ABCN of the U.S.
The Anarchist Black Cross Network of the United States is committed to
prison abolition and prisoner support. The autonomous collectives
that comprise the Network operate through horizontal, consensus-based
decision making. We define all prisoners as political prisoners and
stand in solidarity with those oppressed by the state. We actively
seek to abolish the institutionalized slavery of the Prison Industrial
Complex.
As anarchists, we are opposed to all systems of oppression and
repression and have concluded that prisons serve no function other
than protecting the ruling classes who profit off of them. While
incarceration rates continue to rise, our will to resist is
strengthened. As we support our locked up sisters and brothers, we
offer alternatives to prisons in our own communities. This work is
driven by solidarity, not charity.
The Anarchist Black Cross has sought to bring attention to the
plight of all prisoners and to inspire an Anarchist resistance
and support movement on the outside. We fund-raise on behalf of
prisoners or defense committees in need of funds for legal cases
or otherwise, and organize demonstrations of solidarity with imprisoned
Anarchists and other prisoners.
A new version of "Anarchist Black Cross Information and
Resources," with articles, some new and past pieces on criminalization
and updated addresses is now available online. If you've been
interested in starting an Anarchist Black Cross group, this guide
may prove to be very helpful. Plus, it's free.
