Emergency Response Network
After several years of inactivity, an Emergency Response Network (ERN) was relaunched via email to help facilitate action and communication among prison activists and campaigns. The ERN last had a presence in North America in 1989-'90 by Chicago ABC, then again in the mid-'90s with Nightcrawlers ABC leading the ERN, before fading quickly. Situations calling for some sort of emergency response by non-prisoners range from hungerstrikes, lockdowns, punitive transfers where regular contact with a prisoner is lost up to and including major incidents like hostage-taking or take-overs. The abc-ern list has been expanded to included mail, phone, fax, email and direct action on behalf of Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War, political trials/prosecutions, criminal justice issues and more, with a global focus. All concerned individuals, groups and campaigns are encouraged to submit information to the abc-ern list. It's hoped that, when joining this list, you will take time out of your day and make a point of acting on ERN alerts as well as circulating them among fellow activists (especially those without computer access) and other venues. This list is not perfect, and is limited to the Internet so far, but with your participation, it can grow. The old ERN called for a number of groups to organize as coordinators in their regions, who in turn would be connected to a regional network of activists. If you're working with others in your area, particularly those without computers, take time to print and share ERN actions and get them involved. If you have an emergency alert to share, email it to abc-ern@lists.mutualaid.org. To subscribe, visit: http://lists.mutualaid.org/mailman/listinfo/abc-ern |
